The engine cooling system is the part that regulates engine temperature through coolant circulation. It moves coolant through the engine to absorb heat and then through a radiator to release that heat into the air. A water pump drives the circulation, a thermostat controls when coolant flows to the radiator so the engine warms up quickly and stays within a safe temperature range, and a radiator (often with a cooling fan) dissipates the heat. Together, these pieces keep the engine from overheating and help it run efficiently.

Other systems don’t manage temperature via circulating coolant to keep the engine within its safe range. The oil pressure system relates to lubrication and protection of moving parts. The exhaust system handles exhaust gases and their heat. The cabin heating system uses the hot coolant to warm the interior but isn’t responsible for regulating the engine’s operating temperature.
